Include Hives, Eczema, Contact Allergies and Swelling

Skin problems are among the most common reasons patients come to see us. Hives (urticaria) are raised, itchy welts that can appear suddenly and move around the body. When hives last more than six weeks, we call it chronic urticaria - and that deserves a proper allergy workup.

Eczema (atopic dermatitis) is a chronic itchy rash that often goes hand in hand with nasal allergies and asthma. Contact dermatitis is a rash caused by touching something your skin reacts to - poison ivy, nickel, fragrances, or chemicals at work. Deep swelling of the lips, eyelids or tongue is called angioedema and should always be evaluated.

We can find the root cause of your skin condition with skin testing, patch testing or blood tests, and put together a treatment plan that works. Knowing your triggers and how to avoid them is important in your long term care.
